  1. Resources for Rotation and Shelf Exam
  2. High Yield Topics (Start Looking @ Weekend Before Starting Rotation)
    • Review performing a full physical exam (Stanford 25)
    • Be familiar with the names of common medications for:
      • Sinusitis, pharyngitis, otitis media
      • Diabetes mellitus
      • HTN
      • Hyperlipidemia
      • COPD
    • Have the following topics handy:
      • USPSTF guidelines for screening exams (e.g., colonoscopy, mammogram, DEXA, etc.)
      • Immunization schedule for both children and adults
  3. Getting the Most Out of Your Rotation
    • Focus on pertinent positives and negatives as well as the main complaint for their visit today. Many patients will have many complaints, but there isn’t enough time to cover it all in one appointment. Help the patient prioritize and then stick to that.
    • Present in the correct order every time (cc, HPI, Med Hx, Surg hx, Physical exam, etc…). Resist the urge to jump around from HPI to Physical to Assessment. Stick to your script.
    • Develop a list of differential diagnoses and suggest a plan.
